What is my public IP address?
Your public IP address is the address Internet services see when your connection reaches them. This page reads the address at the Cloudflare edge and shows it in real time together with the IP version, ASN, network organization, approximate country and basic HTTP/TLS connection details.
The address usually belongs to your ISP, mobile carrier, company network, VPN provider or proxy service. Devices on the same home network often share one public IP because they access the Internet through the same router.
Public IP vs private IP
Private ranges such as 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x and 172.16.x.x through 172.31.x.x are used inside local networks and are not routed directly across the public Internet. The address displayed above is the external address observed by this service, which is the value you normally need for firewall allowlists, VPN checks, remote access troubleshooting and connection diagnostics.
If your provider uses carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT), many customers can share the same public IPv4 address. Hosting inbound services may then require IPv6, a tunnel, a VPN, port mapping offered by the provider or a dedicated public IP.
IPv4, IPv6, VPNs and IP location
IPv4 and IPv6 are different versions of the Internet Protocol. The tool reports the version that reached the edge for this request. A network can support both protocols without every request using the same one.
When you enable a VPN and refresh this page, the displayed address should normally change to the VPN exit address. IP geolocation is approximate: it may identify a country, region or provider point of presence, but it is not reliable proof of a person’s exact physical location.
